2023 – Ups & Downs
May 18, 2023Family, Flying, Friendship
October 14, 2023I believe it is human nature to feel curious about our ancestors – who they were? What genes have been handed down? What about DNA? What qualities have been inherited from our natural parents? All these questions have smothered me for 50 years. Soon I may have some answers.
When I was 30 yers old I was told I was adopted at age 3. That my biological father was an American pilot based in Rockhampton during the war. That because of religious differences my parents could not marry. One was a Catholic; the other a Methodist.
Like many who tread this parental search such news can be devastating, emotionally draining.
Thirty-three years passed. Documents were found listing the name and address of my biological father. He was not an
American pilot from who I had believe I had inherited my passion for flying. Such mixed emotions flooded my body.
So since 2006 I have been on the search to find this person: at times actively, at times surrendering to my thoughts “it
really does not matter Ruth”. But my curious nature refuses to allow me to walk away completely. I began to hear my inner voice. “Your Brisbane trip to do an Author Talk will bring family news”.
I was not wrong.
After a 20 minutes wonderful interview on ABF radio a Brisbane listener called to say he could have some information on the Irish Lee family. Communication between myself and ABC listener is active but clarity on the data I need to be sure remains unclear.
I cling to my belief I will find my biological father’s story before I leave this earth. If you are reading this please email me through my website contact to say hello.
